Obituary Slowly I dwell

Another record I had requested for Christmas which was purchased by my daughters Jessica & Amber as my gift for Xmas yet again I must have! Which is Tampa bay’s own Obituary the album Slowly We Rot.

I was into metal at a young age the stuff like Twisted Sister and then discovered bands like Metallica & Slayer in the 80’s.
Back then bands like Metallica & Slayer were not popular and never played on the radio.
Remember the 1st time I had heard Obituary was in 1990 a girl I worked with named Sherri I believe. She was selling all of her tapes because her fiancé had told her metal was immature and no one listened to that stuff but angry teens.
What an asshat right?! hopefully she ditched that tool shortly after and Doc Martin stomped his face.
But I got Obituary Slowly We Rot and Testaments The Legacy for like $10.

As soon as I dropped this in the tape deck and heard the sound of pure metal and growling from hell it threw me a bit back I had never heard singing like this before.
I could not understand what was being growled out but instantly loved it.
From that point on I discovered death metal and was hooked.
Remember an article with Ozzy and he told the story of this band his manager played for him and all Ozzy could utter after hearing Obituary’s 1st demo was INSANE!

At that time Tampa was slowly rising as the Death Metal capital of the music world.
bands like Deicide, Morbid Angel, Biohazard, Slipknot and many other bands were signed here under Roadrunner Records.
The 1990’s was the rise of Metal and the decline of pop and glamor rock 1 hit wonders.

My daughters got me the Picture disc Vinyl record of Obituary Slowly We Rot only 250 were printed. This album was getting quite hard to find even on CD I did finally get a CD copy as well it had to come from Russia.

I don’t know if it’s because this is the 1st death metal band I ever heard but I regard this LP as THE MUST HAVE Death Metal album.
It is the best of the best the cream of the crop.
I’ve listened and have heard literally 1,000’s of death metal bands and none of them touch this in my eyes.
The instrumentals are mesmerizing and the rhythm is gripping and addictive if this doesn’t just grab hold of your balls and pull you for a ride then you missed it.

I had lost much of my vinyl collection which still saddens me deeply.
But slowly I have been collecting again.
I do have some 1st prints but as was pointed out to me the newer releases are 180g records and they just feel better.
Not sure if they sound better or not I have yet to compare an old 1st print and a new re-issue 180 print side by side same album.
But for my birthday last year my wife & daughters purchased me Metallica’s And Justice for All LP special edition box set which is on 6- 180g 45rpm records and it sounds absolutely amazing.

I do try and replace some of my old collection I lost but those were all 1st prints and some are very expensive today so replacing them is not exactly  good idea.
But so far I’m very pleased with what I have gotten.

Update 12/8: Should of mentioned that after getting the L.P I also wanted the CD so I did a search I wasn’t wanting the original pressed CD from 1989 which I originally owned or anything I know there was a Re-master that floated about in the late 90’s that I had loaned out along with quite a few other CD’s and never got back.
Choose your friends wisely and don’t loan your shit out to anyone because most likely they don’t give a shit about it they didn’t work to pay for it.

Ebay had 1st pressings starting at $89 some were a bit rough in condition and they were in $60 range. The newer presses were selling for $39 + F-that!
So decided to order from someone in Russia not only did I get a 1st print it was new in the package never opened and I paid $6.95 for it and was a U.S version not a EU version.
Even has the Godly Records symbol on back which only the original R/C release had. Was a trip opening the disc it was a flash and completely remembered that’s what the disc looked like. I couldn’t of described it up to that point.
I paid more for their 2nd release on CD Cause Of Death and was the 90’s re-master version.
Yes the re-master did sound improved but the original was still loud and precise so I was happy with either version.
