Back to VR “The Climb”

I’m gaming again in VR this time I got a hold of the game created by Crytek using the Cryengine  called The Climb.
This game has had a premium price tag of $49.99 and has stayed at that price point for the last year. That is until Oculus Store had a daily deal and snapped it up for a mere $9.99!
In this game you use your touch controllers to grip and climb mountains from different areas around the world.

I’ve only climbed the 1st mountain and let me tell you it is really an awesome experience.
My arms actually get tired from reaching and stretching to grab that ledge around the bend of the mountain.
If you have the Rig to crank up those settings do it! The views are amazing and when looking down you really feel like your high up on a mountain hanging with 1 hand.
It’s important you dust your hands for extended hang times it’s not very much extended but that little bit could mean life or death.
You gets stars at end of your climb which can open a new mountain for you to conquer.
Depends on if you climb faster and other goals they will give for you to achieve.

If you have an Oculus this is really a must get game it’s seriously that cool I dare say it’s even worth $50 which is rare of me to say since I think PC games should never exceed $39.99.
While I do think it was a Oculus Rift exclusive title it does work with the HTC Vive as far as I know. Does the Vive need any mods to get it working or does it work out of the box? This I’m not sure of but I do know I’ve seen video of others playing The Climb on the Vive and looked nice and smooth no different than the Oculus.

Here are some screens that I have downloaded they are not screens I took myself.

Aside from finding and playing this wonderful game there are a few other honorable mentions. The games I list here are ones I play regularly in VR and are worth playing and purchasing.

Arktika.1
This is another Oculus exclusive and it may work with the HTC Vive do a look about to see if this can be done or if it’s supported.
This is a straight up shooter you weild guns that you can upgrade with the credits you earn after each mission.
Let me just say in this list the new DOOM VFR isn’t listed why? Well because it plain sucked ass in comparison to Arktika.1. Check out the home page:
https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/682000918570174/

Spartaga
This is a bullet hell game where you control your ship with your hand of choice left or right.
Challenge is to stay alive get combos dodge like hell and shoot down everything you see above you below you and even in your face.
It gets adrenaline flowing and some anger as well. lol
Great game if you liked Xortex 26xx or Galaxis Wars or Chamber 19 then this game will be for you.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/657930/Spartaga/

Don’t let the visuals sway you it’s a really good game and can add to your VR collection through Steam for only $12.99 or visit G2a.com probably get steam key for it there for under $5.

Obituary Slowly I dwell

Another record I had requested for Christmas which was purchased by my daughters Jessica & Amber as my gift for Xmas yet again I must have! Which is Tampa bay’s own Obituary the album Slowly We Rot.

I was into metal at a young age the stuff like Twisted Sister and then discovered bands like Metallica & Slayer in the 80’s.
Back then bands like Metallica & Slayer were not popular and never played on the radio.
Remember the 1st time I had heard Obituary was in 1990 a girl I worked with named Sherri I believe. She was selling all of her tapes because her fiancé had told her metal was immature and no one listened to that stuff but angry teens.
What an asshat right?! hopefully she ditched that tool shortly after and Doc Martin stomped his face.
But I got Obituary Slowly We Rot and Testaments The Legacy for like $10.

As soon as I dropped this in the tape deck and heard the sound of pure metal and growling from hell it threw me a bit back I had never heard singing like this before.
I could not understand what was being growled out but instantly loved it.
From that point on I discovered death metal and was hooked.
Remember an article with Ozzy and he told the story of this band his manager played for him and all Ozzy could utter after hearing Obituary’s 1st demo was INSANE!

At that time Tampa was slowly rising as the Death Metal capital of the music world.
bands like Deicide, Morbid Angel, Biohazard, Slipknot and many other bands were signed here under Roadrunner Records.
The 1990’s was the rise of Metal and the decline of pop and glamor rock 1 hit wonders.

My daughters got me the Picture disc Vinyl record of Obituary Slowly We Rot only 250 were printed. This album was getting quite hard to find even on CD I did finally get a CD copy as well it had to come from Russia.

I don’t know if it’s because this is the 1st death metal band I ever heard but I regard this LP as THE MUST HAVE Death Metal album.
It is the best of the best the cream of the crop.
I’ve listened and have heard literally 1,000’s of death metal bands and none of them touch this in my eyes.
The instrumentals are mesmerizing and the rhythm is gripping and addictive if this doesn’t just grab hold of your balls and pull you for a ride then you missed it.

I had lost much of my vinyl collection which still saddens me deeply.
But slowly I have been collecting again.
I do have some 1st prints but as was pointed out to me the newer releases are 180g records and they just feel better.
Not sure if they sound better or not I have yet to compare an old 1st print and a new re-issue 180 print side by side same album.
But for my birthday last year my wife & daughters purchased me Metallica’s And Justice for All LP special edition box set which is on 6- 180g 45rpm records and it sounds absolutely amazing.

I do try and replace some of my old collection I lost but those were all 1st prints and some are very expensive today so replacing them is not exactly  good idea.
But so far I’m very pleased with what I have gotten.

Update 12/8: Should of mentioned that after getting the L.P I also wanted the CD so I did a search I wasn’t wanting the original pressed CD from 1989 which I originally owned or anything I know there was a Re-master that floated about in the late 90’s that I had loaned out along with quite a few other CD’s and never got back.
Choose your friends wisely and don’t loan your shit out to anyone because most likely they don’t give a shit about it they didn’t work to pay for it.

Ebay had 1st pressings starting at $89 some were a bit rough in condition and they were in $60 range. The newer presses were selling for $39 + F-that!
So decided to order from someone in Russia not only did I get a 1st print it was new in the package never opened and I paid $6.95 for it and was a U.S version not a EU version.
Even has the Godly Records symbol on back which only the original R/C release had. Was a trip opening the disc it was a flash and completely remembered that’s what the disc looked like. I couldn’t of described it up to that point.
I paid more for their 2nd release on CD Cause Of Death and was the 90’s re-master version.
Yes the re-master did sound improved but the original was still loud and precise so I was happy with either version.

M.O.D Unwrapping 30 years of kicking ass!

This is one of the Vinyl records I had asked for Christmas.
My youngest daughter Valerie got this for me this holiday of course I can’t wait that long so had to have my gift A.S.A.P.

The album I speak of is  U.S.A for M.O.D by the band M.O.D. Method Of Destruction. A great hardcore/punk/Thrash band that stemmed from band member Scott Ian of Anthrax and Billy Milano from Psychos cross over band S.O.D Storm Troopers of Death.

I personally love this album even more so than the beloved S.O.D Speak English or Die.
The U.S.A for M.OD album pissed many, many people off and was absolutely meant to.
If you lack the intelligence or humor then you could and would never understand what this band is all about.

I was lucky enough to see them live a few years back. Wish I had went to see them in my younger years it would of been a rough next morning:-)
Was at the bar and sat right next to Billy and had a beer and got his autograph as well if I had this record I would of had him sign that.

Any how I wanted to share this because it was like I unwrapped 30 years of my Metal head youth and had a brief flashback of remembrance.
I’m 44 years old and still metal! Until my last breath. Even if I can’t go to shows like I used to.
There is many new bands out there I don’t follow like I used to I’m not stuck on old bands it was my time and my memories buried in those years of metal.

Here are pictures of this very nice vinyl release which was originally re-pressed and released August 2017.
